Our Church has existed in Edinburg (Virginia) since 1836.
Today, we want to be a positive force in the world - by serving the spiritual needs of our congregation and our community, and by helping neighbors in need.
We are secure in our Disciples' tradition that requires us to be life-long students of our faith, reflective Christians, and accept that people will differ in their beliefs and their interpretations.
We are a patchwork quilt of people of different ages, with different backgrounds and different interests who are joined together for worship, spiritual growth, support and friendship.In our quilt, there is always space for others to join!
There is only one inalienable belief demanded of people wanting to join our denomination:
Asked "Do you believe that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of the living God, and do you accept him as the Lord of your life?"
The person must be able to respond
with peace, firmness and commitment, " I do!"

Communion is central to all of our services, and all believers (members and non-members together) are welcome to participate.
Communion is a vital reminder of the origin of our forgiveness, and our sacred charges to love God and to love our neighbor as ourselves.
People who were not raised in the Disciples' tradition are sometimes surprised by the responsibility placed on congregations. Congregations of the Christian Church are self governing. They select their own leadership, own their own property, and manage their own affairs. Lay Elders can preside at the Lord's Table in celebration of Communion, and provide spiritual oversight and care.

We see this as an opportunity to experience new preachers and new challenges, assess where we are heading and how we can grow.
We are sure that there are many people who would enjoy our worship, and the relative lack of ritual and dogma in our approach. At the same time, we know that finding a spiritual home is an intensely personal decision.

Edinburg Christian Church is the home of A SMALL HAND, an outreach project to provide formula, food, diapers and baby essentials to infants in need across Shenandoah County.
